1. What is a DVD Camcorder?

High quality video camera that uses small DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs instead of tape to store full color motion video

and digital still photos. Additionally SD memory card capability provides additional space of digital still photo.

Random and instant access playback and Built-in Editor available.

Provides instant shooting without accidental overwriting for your precious memories.

Records DVD-quality movies and JPEG still photos.

A recorded DVD-R provides playback capability on most DVD players and DVD drives.

(An 8cm DVD-R disc recorded on this camcorder may not be able to be played back on some DVD players and DVD

drives; depending on the player the DVD-R disc and the condition of the recording.)

Navigation System.

18. Can I change video thumbnail image?

Yes: The first scene of video segment is automatically set as a thumbnail when video is recorded.

After that, you can change the thumbnail image to your desired scene on video segment by HITACHI’s Disc Navigation

System.

19. Does it have any editing function on DVD-RAM?

Yes: Delete, Move, Divide, Skip, Repeat, White Fade, Wipe Fade and Black & White Fade are available using

HITACHI’s Disc Navigation System.

20. Is there an editing function for DVD-R?

No: Repeat playback is only available using HITACHI’s Disc Navigation System.

21. Does it have video wipe or fade effects?

Yes: White Fade, Wipe Fade and Black & White Fade effects are available for DVD-RAM discs

(Wipe, fade, and skip effects are unique features of the DVD Camcorder and are not accessible on other DVD video

recording equipment.)

Movie Mode

1. What type media do you use for movie recording?

Use a DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs for the movie recording

2. What does “Extra”, “Fine” and “Standard” record mode mean?

Extra Fine mode: MPEG2 (704x576), 3-10Mbps Variable Bit Rate (VBR) recording

Fine mode: MPEG2 (704x576), 6Mbps Constant Bit Rate (CBR) recording

Standard mode: MPEG2 (352x576), 3Mbps Constant Bit Rate (CBR) recording

3. What is the maximum recording time?

Extra Fine mode (3-10Mbps record speed): Approx. 18 min. minimum per side (36 min. both side), depending on the

subject.

Fine mode (6Mbps record speed): Approx. 30 min. per side (1 hour both side)

Standard mode (3Mbps record speed): Approx. 1 hr. per side (2 hours both side)

Extra Fine mode is only available for DVD-RAM disc.

4. Can I record the movie to SD memory card?

No: SD memory card id only for the digital still photo.

5. What is the audio recording format?

MPEG1 Audio Layer 2, stereo, 48kHz sampling, 256kbps

6. What is MPEG2 format?

MPEG2 provides standards for digital video and digital audio compression on DVD, HDTV and satellite TV. DVD

Camcorder uses it for compression technology on DVD Video Recording Format and DVD Video Format.

7. What is the video recording format or “.vro” file on DVD-RAM?

DVD Video Recording Format

This is a specification for real-time recording on DVD discs.

The standard DVD specification supports only the playback function. DVD Video Recording Format has several

additional functions for recording.

8. What is the video recording format on DVD-R?

DVD Video Format

This is the standard format of commercially available DVDs.

9. Does it support variable bit rate recording?

Yes, variable bit rate, or VBR employs a special motion detector for the incoming video data and dynamically adjusts

the bit rate on MPEG2 video over time.

This optimizes the compression of any given sequence resulting in a much higher quality picture, and reduced file size.

VBR recording is available using DVD-RAM discs in the DZ-MV350 and DZ-MV380.

10. What is the disc type for variable bit rate recording?

Variable bit rate, or VBR, is available for DVD-RAM discs.

11. What is the expected file size of recorded movies?

Fine mode (6Mbps): Approx. 1.4 GB per 30 minute recording (one side)

12. In what folder on the DVD-RAM disc is the movie file stored?

The movie file is stored in: DVD_RTAV folder as a “.vro” file extension

2. Can I take the still photo when I use DVD-R disc?

Yes: Use a SD memory cord for still photography.

No: If you do not have a SD memory card during using DVD-R disc, you can not take a still photography.

3. What is the resolution of the JPEG still photos?

• DZ-MV380

• DZ-MV350

640x480, Approx. VGA

4. What is the maximum number of still photos that can be stored on one DVD-RAM

disc?

1,998 photos total (for both sides)

This number will decrease if still photos & movies are recorded on the same disc.

(One photo uses approx. 1 second of movie time)

5. What is the maximum number of still photos that can be stored on SD memory

card?

• DZ-MV380

Approx. 5 JPEG images in Fine mode on 8M Byte.

Approx. 12 JPEG images in Normal mode on 8M Byte.

Approx. 24 JPEG images in Economy mode on 8M Byte.

Yes: DVD Camcorder provides copy function of JPEG photo from DVD-RAM disc to SD memory card. After copying,

you can set DPOF function.

10. Can I set number of printing to a desired scene?

Yes: The number of printing setting is available by DPOF function.

11. What is DPOF?

DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) is a standard format of Digital Camera. It provides you to select the photo for

printing and set the number of printing.

Playback

1. How can I view the movies recorded by DVD Camcorder?

Use the built-in LCD monitor with speaker on the camcorder.

Connect the DVD Camcorder directly to the TV (PAL format) using the supplied special A/V cables.

Download the file to your PC using the USB interface cable, and view it using a DVD playback application that

supports DVD recording format (“.vro” file extension) such as DVD-MovieAlbumSE 3 (In-box software, DVD-RAM

disc only) or CyberLink’s PowerDVD XP (Store-sold software).

2. How do I playback a particular scene?

Turn the camcorder on to set the movie mode and press the “Disc Navigation” button.

You will see thumbnail previews of photos and/or movie scenes.

Select a scene using the joystick button, and then press the joystick or “Play” button.

Playback controls are the same as a standard DVD player.

3. How do I connect the DVD Camcorder to a TV?

The supplied special AV cable provides both S-Video and standard RCA type A/V connections.

4. Can I playback my recorded DVD-RAM discs on any DVD Player?

No, DVD-RAM disc recorded on the DVD Camcorder will not play back on every DVD player.

Some new DVD players designed to be compliant with the new DVD-RAM book2 standards will enable playback of

discs recorded on the DVD Camcorder.

5. Can I playback my recorded DVD-RAM discs on current DVD-ROM drives?

No, DVD-RAM disc recorded on the DVD Camcorder will not play back on every drive.

Some of the new DVD-ROM drives designed to be compliant with the new DVD-RAM book2 standards will playback

discs recorded on the DVD Camcorder. Many previous DVD-ROM drives on the market that came out before the

DVD-RAM standard was released will not play back discs recorded on the DVD Camcorder.

HITACHI manufactures DVD-ROM drives for some PC manufactures as OEM products.

HITACHI model GD-7500 DVD-ROM has DVD-RAM read/write compatibility.

6. How can I play my DVD-RAM disc on a compatible DVD player & DVD-ROM

drive?

Remove the disc from the protective holder.

Insert the disc into the DVD Player or DVD-ROM drive.

(Requires that the DVD player and DVD-ROM drive are compatible with DVD-RAM book2.1 standards.)

7. Can I playback my recorded DVD-R discs on any DVD Player?

Yes, A finalized DVD-R disc provides playback capability on most DVD players.

(An 8cm DVD-R disc recorded by DVD Camcorder may not be able to be played back on some DVD players,

depending on the player, the DVD-R disc and the condition of the recording.)

Yes, A finalized DVD-R disc provides playback capability on most DVD-ROM drives.

9. How can I play my DVD-R disc on a DVD player & DVD-ROM drive?

Connect AC adapter/charger to the camcorder. You cannot finalize discs under battery power.

Finalize the DVD-R disc

Remove the disc from the holder

Insert the disc into the DVD Player or DVD-ROM drive.
